Budapest Festival Orchestra in Richter Hall
One notable day is coming up on April 15, 2014, when the Budapest Festival Orchestra is to hit the Richter Hall stage as a guest appearance in our city. Incidentally, Budapest Festival Orchestra has been founded by prodigious pianist Zoltán Kocsis and conductor Ivan Fischer 30 years ago and by now it is generally rated to be one of the ten best orchestras of the world.
Mr. Fischer is the artistic director since the foundation of BFO and in a manner of speaking under his leadership the group has become a „travelling ambassador” for Hungarian culture. They regularly play in the world’s famed concert halls like Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, or the Lincoln Center in Washington. They Győr performance will be this season’s final event of the János Sándor Season Ticket Series to be conducted by outstanding Russian conductor Dmitri Kitayenko. Mr. Kitayenko was born in St. Petersburg in 1940 and was the music director of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra for 14 years while guest conducting amongst others the Viennese, or the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. Featuring at the Győr concert is Sergej Krylov who is regarded these days to be one of the best violinists of the world. Program includes works by Rimsky Korsakov, Shostakovich, Prokofev, and Richard Strauss.
Do come along to enjoy a rare treat in our city!
