GYPO in China again
Following the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra's highly successful tour in Japan earlier this year, the city's musicians are off yet again to the Far East to play New Year's concerts on the stages of China's most frequented halls.
"Commissioned by an Austrian music agency, the orchestra travels to China where our city's orchestra had already performed previously on numerous occasions. This time around GYPO is scheduled to play shows in Beijing, Shanghai, Yinchuan and Chengdu. We leave for China on December 20 and come back to Hungary on January 7, 2017. During the 18 days in China we'll give a total of 12 performances. Apart from the well-known pieces commonly played at this time of the year the program also includes some Hungarian and Chinese works" - these were the words of general manager Géza Fűke in anticipation of the tour. All concerts of GYPO are conducted by Kálmán Berkes, and feature guest soprano Victoria Varga. Besides the singer, four dancers will also add their artistry to the shows to enrich the experience.
"I am convinced this tour will further bolster the recognition of our orchestra in China, a country that plays an increasingly significant role on the classical music market of the wolrd" - concluded Mr. Fűke.
Once GYPO is on home turf again it is set to start preparing for its first concert in 2017 at Richter Hall on January 13 playing works by Tchaikovsky, Debussy, and Messiaen under the baton of Adrian Prabava.
