A Győr Philharmonic Orchestra presentation: European Clarinet Festival in Győr, Hungary
We are pleased to announce that as a result of the European Clarinet Association's favorable decision our city can host this year the European Clarinet Festival between August 28 and 31, 2018. Clarinetist as well as artistic director of the event, Gábor Varga said to the press that during during the four days of the festival more than a hundred international and Hungarian artists are to make appearances. Simultaneously, to showcase young players' talents, there will be two competitions going on for two separate age groups.
Amongst other internationally acclaimed artists there are recitals scheduled to be given by soloists Seunghee Lee from the USA, and Sharon Kam from Israel, Pavel Vinnitsky and Alcides Rodriguez from the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Andrew Marriner from the London Phil, Calogero Palermo from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Eddie Vanoosthuyse from the Brussels Phil, Arkadius Adamski from the National Polish Radio Symphony, and Karel Dohnal from the Prague State Opera.
As a main feature of the festival, previously selected young players, born between 1992 and 2000, will have the opportunity to compete against one another in two rounds.
Contestants are required to first play the work they had qualified themselves for the competition by. In the second round, participants of the first age group are asked to play a piece called Studie by Gaetano Donizetti while those made it through the first round of the second age group are to play Claude Debussy's Rhapsody no.1 as well as an other work by own choice.
Performances will be adjudicated by an international panel of five. The festival will be concluded by gala concerts held in Richter Hall, Győr, featuring as accompanists the Győr Symphonic Band and the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra.
