Concerts in November

The Franz Liszt Symphony Orchestra of Sopron is to be performing at the Franz Liszt Conference and Cultural Center in Sopron on November 6 as the second event of our Franz Liszt Season Ticket Series. Program includes a witty orchestral suite called "The Comedians" by Dmitry Kabalevsky, and Johan Nepomuk Hummel's popular trumpet concerto in E flat major, featuring Balázs Winkler as soloist. The orchestral version of Czech composer Bedrich Smetana's string quartet subtitled "From my Life" will conclude the evening's program, conducted by Péter Kóczán.
A day later, on November 7 we invite you to the Old Evangelical Church in Győr to a 7pm concert subtitled "Baroque Masters". The Győr Chamber Orchestra this time has selected well-known masterpieces like Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", played by Éva Lukács, Boglárka Juhász-Molnár, Márton Vörösvári, and Antal Zalai, respectively.

Ádám Vörös is to play the trumpet as soloist in a piece by Tommaso Albinoni, as well as in a sonata by Georg Friedrich Telemann. The other two works of the program are from Georg Handel, and arguably the greatest of them all, J. S. Bach. Artistic director of the evening is prominent Hungarian violinist, Antal Zalai. The International Day of the White Cane is held every year to help raise funds for the blind and visually challenged people in our country. This year it is a joint effort of the Győr Phil and the First Lions Club of Győr. Much to our delight, Győr-born singers of the Hungarian Operetta Theater, Lilla Polyák, and Zsolt Homonnay, had accepted our invitation to take part in the event at 7pm on November 11 at Richter Hall, Győr. GYPO is scheduled to be conducted by István Silló. Program includes top hits, and evergreen melodies from musicals, and operettas.
The Károly Flesch Series kicks off in our current season at 4pm on November 17 at the University Concert Hall in Győr by a concert called "Harmoniemusik" which was, incidentally, a rather interesting musical phenomenon of the 18th century. Mainly light-hearted, entertaining music was composed under that label for smaller wind ensambles. The program for this afternoon performance includes both a partita in E flat major, and an octet-partita in F major written by Franz Krommer. The third piece of the program is the Serenade in C minor by W. A. Mozart. Players of the Győr Phil will be led by one of our country's most revered wind music experts, artistic director Kálmán Berkes. Our November 18/19 concerts in Veszprém, and Győr, respectively, subtitled "Linzer", will be conducted one of Hungary's best young conductors, Péter Dobszay. The Győr evening, is in fact the second event of the János Sándor Season Ticket Series. Program consists of works by J. Haydn, Carl Reinecke, and W. A. Mozart, featuring prominent flutist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Henrik Wiese.
Our November music offerings conclude with an appropriately subtitled concert called "Swansong". This Richter Hall event is the opening one of our Tibor Varga Series. The program includes Richard Wagner's famous overture for his opera "The Flying Dutchman" followed by one of music history's most unsurpassably beautiful pieces, the "Four Last Songs" by the old and grey Richard Strauss, sung for the first time with GYPO, by internationally acclaimed soprano Csilla Boross. Last but not least, GYPO will play Symphony no. 4 in A major (the Italian) by Felix Mendelssohn - Bartholdy. Conductor of the evening is Kálmán Berkes.
