Before the Wooden Prince concert

Justifiably, the upcoming January 29, 7pm Richter Hall concert could be called the most patriotically Győr-like presentation of the season.

Named after our city's world-famous conductor, this János Richter season ticket episode features Dmitry Smirnov, winner of the grand, also Győr-born Tibor Varga International Violin Competition of Sion. Mr. Smirnov is scheduled to perform Brahms's timelessly beautiful violin concerto in D major in the first half of the concert whereas Béla Bartók's ballet "The Wooden Prince" fills the second half. Not surprisingly, the composer gave one of his last concerts in Győr. To even further enhance the Győr-pedigree the conductor of the evening is none other than Gilbert Varga, son of locally born renowned violinist, Tibor Varga. Gilbert has already been our guest conductor a number of times before and it is always a great pleasure to have him conduct GYPO.
