BRUCKNER + KOCSIS
The Győr Philharmonic Orchestra is currently preparing at Richter Hall to play symphony number 8 by Viennese composer Anton Bruckner, a prime representative of the post-Beethoven era. Reahearsals for the February 20, 2015 concert are under way held by the great two-time Kossuth-prize winner pianist, conductor, and composer, Zoltán Kocsis, who incidentally is the music director of the National Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also a one-time Liszt-prize winner and our current season’s resident artist.
We can certainly take pride in the fact that the well-received premier of this monumental work of music has been held in Vienna in 1892 under the baton of Győr-born János Richter! The audience present applauded tremendously and truly appreciated to hear the symphony’s gripping melodies amongst which one can even identify some gems of Austrian baroque religious music. The performance of this grand, 80 minute long piece requires an enlarged orchestral apparatus which was also unique at the time of its creation.
Rehearsals are to go on for almost a week to secure a thorough knowledge of the symphony. Moreover, we are set to make the most of learning from this world-renown, rather inspiring artist. We all esteem this wonderful experience very high and deem it essential to further raise the standards of our orchestra. All in all, it sounds like an excellent idea to pay a visit to Richter Hall at 7pm on Friday the 20th of February, 2015. To quote the words of Mr. Kocsis „one the greatest symphonies of universal music” is to be heard soon in Győr.
We sincerely hope to see you there!
