GYŐR PHIL'S NEW HARPSICHORD BEING MADE IN ENGLAND

Internationally renowned harpsichord maker, Huw Saunders, was recently in Győr to strike a deal on a new harpsichord made for the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Saunders was here in Budapest to hear the maiden performance of his self-manufactured Kirckman-harpsichord commissioned by the Palace of Arts. His instrument was played by harpsichordist Augusztin Szokos. "The reference point in this case was harpsichordist / musicologist Miklós Csányi with whom I had met in England when he'd played a recital on an instrument manufactured by me.

Hungarian House of Music

The Hungarian House of Music was opened on January 22, 2022, by a posh inauguration ceremony in City Park, Budapest. As Hungary's prime minister Viktor Orban said in his speech : "we Hungarians still manage to expand even amidst the current crisis that surrounds us." Andras Batta, managing director of the new institute added : "our mission is to invite representatives of the most diverse kinds of music imaginable.

GYPO secretary wins award on Culture Day

Ever since 1989 the Day of Hungarian Culture is celebrated every year on January 22. That date (January 22, 1823) featured on the manuscript of a poem called "anthem" by Ferenc Kölcsey that later became the lyrics of the Hungarian national anthem, composed by Ferenc Erkel. Traditionally, that is when the city council of Győr hands out the "Győr Art" and the "Győr Culture Awards".

Music made in England rescheduled! 

Dear Patrons,

We hereby bring to your attention that due to the Hungarian parliamentary elections our Tatabánya Philharmony Season Ticket concert dubbed "Music made in England", originally scheduled for April 3, 2022, is now moved to 7pm, Sunday, April 10, 2022. 

The program and the venue (Agora of the Vértes) of the event are unchanged. The Tatabánya Wind Ensemble is to perform evergreen oldies-goldies under the baton of Ferenc Szabó.

Orchestral Rick

Fantastic news: yet another rock music legend has accepted our invitation! On February 9, 2022, our guest artist at Richter Hall is to be Rick Wakeman accompanied by a mixed choir and our very own orchestra, essentially performing classical symphonic music.

Maestro

A six-chapter talk show entitled "Maestro" is scheduled to kick off shortly at Richter Hall. All interested parties are welcome to attend a unique program to meet and hear our two dear guests whose lifetime stories promise fun and joy aplenty. In a talk-show called "Duel of Artists" Győr Philharmonic Orchestra's artistic director, Liszt Prize-holder Kálmán Berkes, is to be interviewed by one of Hungary's acting legends, Oszkár Gáti.
