Istvánffy Benedek exhibition at Richter Hall
The Győr Philharmonic Orchestra in association with the Győr Diocesan Archives is set to open a rather unique exhibition on September 19, 2016, in the first floor foyer of Richter Hall. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the life and works of essentially the one and only representative of the late baroque/early classical era of Hungarian music of the highest European standards, Benedek Istvánffy, after whom our latest season ticket is coincidentally named. The exhibition is entitled „Benedek Istvánffy, a Hungarian genius from the 18th century”.
The exhibition is set to display all of Istvánffy’s existing works in a thus far unprecedented manner. The majority of the surviving shet music can be found in the Diocesan Archives in Győr, Hungary, but items from Veszprém and Kismarton can also be viewed at the exhibition. The event is set to be opened by Dr. Zoltán Lukácsi, diocesan prebend as well as rector of the Győr Theological University. Curator of the exhibition is music historian Zoltán Farkas. Artists of GYFZ will contribute to the opening ceremony. The exhibition can be seen until October 24, 2016, during the opening hours of Richter Hall, and also before and/or during Richter Hall concerts.
