Magical start of the new 2023/2024 orchestra seasont!
As promised in the title slogan we are set to kick off the new GYPO season by some truly magical productions. Following three concerts of evergreen classical pieces, and two cracking pop music shows, we have selected for the fall a number of really unique and masterly works. It is our great pleasure to announce that we decided to restart our two highly successful season ticket series, the sacred music series of the Benedek Istvánffy, as well as the chamber music series of the Károly Flesch season tickets, respectively.
The current season begins with a concert celebrating the International Day of Music. Principal conductor Martin Rajna has chosen two great masterpieces for the occasion, Gustav Mahler first symphony, and a piano concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven. Soloist is Zoltan Fejérvári, one of the greatest talents of his generation in Hungary.
Furthermore, the first act of Richard Wagner's monumental opera 'Valkyrie' is certainly a special treat still in the 2023 calender year.
Domonkos Héja is back to Győr after years of absence conducting a romantic work by Austrian composer Hugo Wolf. The same applies to South African-born Gerard Korsten who this time brings music by Joseph Haydn and Johannes Brahms. In December, 2023, we will have the pleasure to host Arkady Beryn on our stage to conduct the Gurfinkel duet. One of the twin brothers, Daniel Gurfinkel, happens to be the solo clarinet player of our orchestra thus our Győr audience will have the chance to see and hear his "other half" at last!
GYPO's flute player, Fabian Köhring, will also have his opportunity to introduce himself as a soloist when playing the D major concerto by W. A. Mozart. Next concert in line is entitled "Pictures of an Exhibition, referring to the famous impressionistic music by Modest Mussorgsky. This time it will be conducted by artistic director Kálmán Berkes.
Another Hungarian young conductor, Gábor Hontvári, is scheduled to conduct a symphony by L. van Beethoven, followed by the Divertimento by Béla Bartók. Gifted pianist and musician Ádám Baross has so far delighted local audiences by his great piano playing but this time around he is to have his debut performance as an aspiring conductor. He is set to begin his conducting lessons in Weimar, Germany, this fall. Needless to say there will be no shortage of piano concertos in this season. Kossuth and Liszt-prize winner, János Balázs, is to walk onstage in Richter Hall in March, 2024.
Our next season will also have a couple of away-performances in Budapest. Firstly, we are to play the C minor piano concerto by W. A. Mozart, as well as the 4th symphony by Johannes Brahms at the Academy of Music under the baton of Kálmán Berkes. Also, commissioned by the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Palace of Art (MÜPA), GYPO is to play the second symphony by Jan Sibelius, conducted by Martin Rajna as part of the 2024 marathon concert named after the Finnish composer.
Tickets for any of the above concerts are available at the Ticket Office of Richter Hall from 10am, August 10 (Thursday), 2023. It is advised to purchase season tickets early as according to our new system tickets are to be sold in order of arrival.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon.
